re: Brief report on 6th Mars conference

"Vic Baker, almost singlehandedly, held out for an abundantly wet Mars
with his "MEGAOUTFLO" hypothesis which is little changed from last
year and remains unconvincing in many aspects (IMHO). There are still
a few other supporters, but most of these are junior or secondary
workers, rather than primary workers."

I don't consider Michael Carr and James Head to be secondary workers:

USGS Planetary Geologist Named AAAS Fellow
"Dr. Michael H. Carr, a planetary geologist at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) who has participated in almost every U.S., Russian and European mission to Mars, will be installed as a "Fellow" in the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), on Saturday, February 16, at the AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston, Mass. Each year the AAAS bestows this honor to members whose "efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished.""

G.K. GILBERT AWARD
Presented to James W. Head III
"Citation by Sean C. Solomon
The G. K. Gilbert Award is presented annually for outstanding contributions to the solution of fundamental problems in planetary geology. There have been few, if any, whose professional work exemplifies this description in greater breadth than this year’s awardee. Jim Head is the recipient of the 2002 G. K. Gilbert Award for his many scientific publications addressing a wide range of geological problems on the planets and satellites of our solar system, for his sustained efforts in undergraduate education and graduate research supervision in planetary geology, and for his leadership role in fostering international communication on planetary exploration."
