I think most Americans were immediately disgusted with the idea that the government would sponsor a website where people could bet whether or not some other Americans might get killed in a terrorist attack or not (Imagine the opportunity for "insider trading" with that). That you fail to understand or appreciate why this is the case speaks volumes about you.

As for the Seattle Times, you must remember that it is a Republican paper. Perhaps that explains why you think so little of their Editorial Board. Of course your expression of your opinion of the editorial staff there is simply another example of how conservatives don't actually speak to the issues - they only insult the people who actually do.
