re: fundamental differences

How can I? Iraq wa a secular state where the religious majority did not have power. Futhermore, the invasion has actually worked to the advantage of those seeking to spread islamic fundamentalism (the infiltration of the area of fundamentalists through Iran and Syria).

Iraq is an Arab country that was under the boot of a secular (but still professed Islamic) dictator. The Islamic religion was suppressed but just below the surface. I agree that Iraqis tend to be more secular which works in our favor to build an Arab secular state with a secular army.

If the Islamic radicals want to use their assets against us in Iraq instead of the USA it is not all bad. Some have said that that was part of the plan. I'm not sure.

Demonstrate that Iraq is the 'home turf' of islamic radicals? Can you?

Probably not to your satisfaction but I offer this:

Iraq is part and parcel of the Arab world, much more so than Iran which is not Arab. They are divided by political borders but they consider themselves to be brothers and intertwined far more than I might feel about another Anglo Saxon. They are further joined by a common religion which is fundamentalist at best and hellish at it's worst. I am convinced that Islamic radicals consider Iraq their home turf whether you do or not. The "pouring" of radicals over the Syrian and Iranian borders seems to only add credibility.

On the contrary, frank, we are moving rapidly in that direction. Fact is, a terrorist attack led us to invade a country that had nothing to do with that attack. We also threw away a substantial portion of our global credibility and political power base in this rush to war. Furthurmore, we did so on obviously false pretence (the WMD and Terrorism thing), and our country is so polarized with anger that nobody cares about this or the problems arising from this action.

The way I see it we are doing everything we can to avoid that outcome, partly by invading a country that was part of the greater problem. You belief that we have squandered any credibility or political power base is just an opinion. The EU countries that opposed us are miffed at worst and it could be argued that our world position is no worse that equal to pre-GWII, maybe better.

This Fatwa was probably a result of AlQaeda bringing the war to SaudiArabia. So then, as a means to the combatting of global terrorism, were those terrorist attacks on Saudis and Americans in Saudi-Arabia then justified?

The means justifies the end here, according to what I understand of your argument... So?

It also may only apply to terrorist acts against other Muslims. I don't know yet what it means, we'll see.

Being pragmatic does not necessarily, or even often, equal "the end justifies the means". If you take the shortest route from point a to point b it could mean exactly that but we are taking a circuitous route that history will judge. As far as nobody caring about the so called false pretense, neither side has rested their case and it hasn't gone to the jury. It will be resolved in due time.

I am convinced that we have acted correctly so far but it can be screwed up by small men and petty politics on both sides.
