They couldn't get there themselves, so this is the answer to their prayers. "Smite the Westerners!" they beseached the Almighty. And this was the answer.

I actually was all laughed out this morning when I read that in the paper.

But suppose they had been behind it. Can you imagine how disappointed they were with the results? No riots, very little looting, people helping the police direct traffic, general resignation and a splash of humor. No loss of life was a lucky fluke, I think -- accidents are very likely in situations like that. Or maybe that too was part of God's answer to the tolerance-challenged. "OK, I smote their electrical system. Now watch carefully -- I won't kill any of them. And they're resilient enough to bounce back in a couple of days. Take the lesson. Go ye forth and do likewise."

This isn't the answer they would have wanted. So then I laughed some more.
