Unnecessary controversy

If the anti-religious types and a stubborn judge hadn't seen fit to make this into a test case, nobody would have heard or cared about this.

Displays of the Ten Commandments have been in court buildings around the country and elsewhere for years, and nobody gave a rat's ass.

In practice, the legalities involved in this kind of thing are long and complex. Like other areas of the Constitution where the language seems clear enough until the lawyers got a hold of it, the First Amendment has been twisted to mean that even the slightest connection between government and religion should be forbidden. As long as they were working on protecting individual freedom, I sure wish our founders had thought to write such an amendment about government and economic activity.

Particularly amusing have been those leftists who complain that they find such things "offensive to those with different values." A real hoot coming from a political group that has made a life's work of shoving their own values down the throats of everyone around them, often by legal force.

IMO, basically, this is all about getting one more religious person's head on a spike, like they tried with Ashcroft.
