re: Thank You Larry and btw

"Whatever happened to the great speeches?

Why can we no longer have a "I have a dream...." or a "Ask not..." speech?

Even in the current days of the soundbite, why do no golden nuggets rise to the surface*.
"It's the economy stupid", while a great sounbite hardly ranks up there with "Free at last!".

Are we too jaded to see em, or have all the great lines been taken already?"

I would say the simple answer is we are generally speaking: disrepectful.
A leader MUST respect "the People", enough so that he/she will take the time neccessary to craft a good speech.
President Bush *might* have enough respect (generally speaking), but he isn't smart enough to break away from the "fashion" of disrespect. Sometimes Pres Bush does think an occasion is "important enough" and manages to give a fairly good speech. Clinton on the other hand knew the value of good speeches and political skills in general and honed these skills to such an degree, that he was known as The Terminator.
