The fact that it is almost impossible in this day of universal information access and the Internet to slip something past the American people is one reason I don't worry about tyranny here. At least not of the jackboot kind. We are still highly vulnerable to the siren song of state control of our lives and needs in other areas.
It would be refreshing if liberals worried as hard about our wealth, property, medical care, retirement, education, and other assets and needs being turned over exclusively to an all-powerful state, as they do about their phones being tapped.
Next time a liberal talks your ear off about the dangers of Ashcroft and the looming Great Theocracy, ask them how they feel about the government taking over all their medical care. Funny, ain't it?
