re: Newsweek discusses theory on Saddam's behavior

A new spin? As the prospects for finding world-threatening quantities of WMD fades, the admin uses the press to find out how many will dance to its new tune. You've gotta admit, the "official line" has taken some real turns.

Finding the truth may be like trying to identify a single gust of wind inside a hurricane. It could blow right before your eyes and you'd never know it.

I tend to favor the notion that intrigue simply isn't an innate Iraqi skill. Their intel and security people were perhaps closer to a sadistic version of the Keystone Kops than to an elite squad of "00" agents. That isn't to say they weren't dangerous...just that they weren't sophisticated about it. Could such a gang really have pulled the wool over the entire world's eyes? Could they have concealed a large and functioning WMD program from the American expeditionary force?

I dunno. Apparently nobody does. But ignorance is no excuse to stop a good invasion.
