I know there are terrorist activities in Canada - but they aren't aiming at Canada, just using it as a staging ground, with the US as their target. Canada is well-suited for their purposes - a long and almost-impossible-to-completely-defend border with the US, immigration policies that need to be tightened up, a large immigrant population that makes it easy for anyone from the middle east to blend in, lots of sparesly populated areas... A lot needs to be done to combat these activities in Canada, and a lot is being done. Hopefully cooperation between our two countries can increase on this front.
But my point was that Canada hasn't been much of a target of terrorism, despite being very similar to the US in culture, living conditions, society, etc. Canada isn't a major world power (though not insignificant, either), but it is a clear example of a western country that is very different to the US as far as international opinion and terrorism targeting goes. Hey, you would think hard core Islamists would target Canada more because of relaxing drug laws, same-sex marriage legislation, Celine Dion... in some ways, the current US conservative outlook is a lot more in line with Islam than that in Canada.
