When something like this happens to an expensive payload, the guys working on it have to suppress an urge to jump out the window. I've been there. I once dropped an extremely expensive propellant valve. About 15 pounds of metal. I stuck my foot under it, and broke its fall. I figured my foot would heal, right?
I wouldn't have hurled my body under this thing, though. I don't think so, anyway.
