Ouch!! What is this spacecraft and when did this happen?

Many years ago I accidentally pulled a battery charger unit off a table about 3 feet on to the floor. It didn't seem damaged, so we notified everyone about what happened, and went ahead and finished testing. It was for a spare spacecraft and was not to be launched for 5 years or more, depending on how well the original worked. In the end when they decided to prep the spacecraft for launch they were looking through the paper work and saw this incident. After so many years new people were in charge, and they were not willing to take a chance and had us build a new charger. For years I had investigators coming by and talking to me about it. There was never any question about trying to keep it a secret. It is much better to let everyone involved know so appropriate action can be taken. A failed unit can fail the entire spacecraft. Another guy fudged some data on a battery test he had performed incorrectly, and was found out and fired. He had been with the company for over 20 years.

One thing that kept me from being the goat of the day was that someone else broke a million dollar adaptor ring on another spacecraft that same day. He received all the attention that day. I was hardly noticed.
