Animal behavior changes have been used "a few times" as earthquake early warning systems, and there are people on the west coast who still swear by them, but it's not good enough to risk thousands of human lives. Most earthquakes apparently do not give an infrasound warning -- or at least one animals would respond appropriately to -- so the animals know an earthquake is coming about the same time we do.
It would be nice if the Earth could be a little less "natural", but there we are,
