I remember when the recall petition effort was a joke. Then it easily got more than enough signatures, many from registered Democrats, and nobody was laughing any more.
Democrats aligned behind Davis, until it turned out that Bustamente would cheerfully throw Davis to the wolves for power. Davis is a dead man walking.
Tom McClintock, the Democrat's worst nightmare, is overtaking Arnold, who the Democrats are counting on being the frontrunning Republican. He doesn't have a strong political foundations, and the Democrats have some serious dirt they are withholding until the last minute. The press is pretending McClintock doesn't exist.
Democrats are desperately pumping their favorite leftist wet-dream legislation through the process to get it to Davis' desk before it's too late. If they had confidence in his ability to withstand a recall, why bother? Davis has already signed some lousy bills, and more are coming up.
"inherently undemocratic?" Hey, we're voting on it, aren't we? But then Democrats have always had a deep distrust of the voting process. Have you ever noticed how when an election doesn't go their way, it's because the voters were "fooled," "angry," or just downright "stupid." Democrats never lose an election just because voters didn't like their ideas. Votes in California that go the "wrong" way on propositions are immediately hurled into the courts to die.
By the way, I'm sure, given your opinion on the recall, that you do not support the many "impeach Bush" movements.
