Sangar Aref Saeed is a compact, 26-year-old shepherd from northeastern Iraq who last year joined the military wing of Ansar al-Islam, a group the prisoners say is closely allied with al Qaeda. He fled to Iran when the war began. Iranian security officials, he said, allowed him and other fighters to regroup there.
This guy lived in Iraq and belonged to a terror group there before the attack, and then fled to Iran before returning. And guess what--Ansar al-Islam was there long before he joined up. They just switched from attacking Kurdish civilians to attacking American armed forces.
I dimly recall that someone was insisting that the "flypaper" technique wasn't working, and that we were not sucking in any al-Qaeda. Apparently they were wrong.
Notice the guy they interviewed is in the hoosegow, and not out in the desert somewhere with a bomb.
