Actually, it supports my counter.
Article:
United States forces in Iraq were a magnet for anti-American Jihadists through the region.
Doonesbury:
:It's much more jihad-friendly now! Before the invasion, we were too afraid to operate in Iraq!" "Afraid? Of what?" "Weapons of mass destruction. We bought it, too."
Me:
What kept jihad out of Iraq were a lack of juicy Western targets, and a lack of nasty ol’ Western supporters in sheiks clothing. We accommodated a need, and international terror groups responded.
Now, here:
"These are tactical issues. Strategically the removal of Saddam Hussein and the provision of political opportunity for jihadist forces to operate freely in Iraq has been a core al-Qaeda objective. "There is little yet in the Iraqi outcome to cause bin Laden regret."
...is one man's theory. It's a good one, but in no way does it come anywhere near the Doonsberry claim of WMD being a factor. The key was Hussein & Co blocking al-Qai'da free-rein in Iraq.
Well, today that rein is blocked by the Coalition -- today's, and yesterday's, ongoing jihad target -- and we remain, and will not be departing any time soon, regardless of UN support/nonsupport.
Cheers,
Dan
