missles

Four brand-new Rolands is much different from a bunch of 10+ year-old stingers.

The stingers probably don't even work. First, there are a lot of sophisticated electronics. Those tend to fail after a time. Second, there is the battery. The battery is necessary to cool the sensors, so that they might better track heat sources. These aren't off-the-shelf 9-volts we're talking about here. There is only one supplier - Uncle Sam.

You can probably fire the missles, but you likely won't hit anything. Al Qaeda tried to knock down that Israeli jetliner on takeoff in Kenya last November. They used two SA-7s, which were probably at least 15 years old. Didn't hit nothin' - during takeoff, when the plane would be slowest and the engines at MAX power.

I'm sure that the French missles broke the UN embargo. Odds are excellent that they were brought in through Syria.
