Nothing new

When you apply for a mortgage loan, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth and other information that will allow us to identify you.

At closing, our agent may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents.

Last time I closed a mortgage many years ago, they took all this information and tons more personal stuff, including ALL my credit ratings, personal residence history, credit card information, social security number, employment history, and my tax returns for the previous two years (standard operating procedure if you're self-employed). This is nothing new.
