NASA Is On Target to Reach Spaceguard Goal With Less Money & Smaller Scopes

NASA has supposedly been spending 3.5 million per year and using 1 M scopes rather than 2 m scoipes for the most part. Of course LONEOS has been getting private support and both LINEAR and NEAT get Air Force Support so I'm not sure how much in total is being spent per year. The original spaceguard report recommendations were for 10 to 20 million per year and several new 2m scopes optimized for NEO search. Seems to me NASA has been very economical and somewhat fortunate (significant advances in CCD technology) in meeting existing NEA detection goals. Were you refering to existing or future programs? I don't believe anyone at NASA claims as EP does that the lunar option is cost effective. Even the CAPS lunar proposal explicitly states otherwise.

Mark
