Jesus was a Jew, and Christians worship him. When they worship Jesus they somehow disassociate his name from the flesh-and-blood man, and turn it into some kind of ethereal symbol. It doesn't make any sense, but it means that western media is biased toward reporting Israeli-Palestinian conflicts because it resonates more in people's minds. The conflict in Israel is always in the spotlight, but conflicts elsewhere are essentially ignored.

We can try to educate children so that they grow up understanding that religion is based on the historical deification of some person. For example, Catholics wanted to beatify Mother Theresa -- call her Saint Theresa -- not long after she died. A couple thousand years from now there may be a whole religious sect surrounding this woman. That's how things develop.

We can educate one generation, but we all start out as children. The whole nightmare can re-ignite every 20 years. There is no solution but to educate everyone, everywhere, continuously, as long as humans walk the earth. Pretty tough when there are so many poor people who can't read or write, have no electricity or running water. Tough to convince them that education is more important than foraging for firewood, more important than God, more important than making babies. And if that is how our species has evolved, one might argue that they will only be convinced if their survival depends on it.
