For the record, I'm not any more impressed with the pissing contest going on on the best seller lists than you are. If I could get as many people reading Rand, Hayek, or even O'Rourke (who's at least got some class), as are reading Franken, Moore, Coulter and O'Reilly, this country would be in a lot better shape.

On the other hand, speaking as a libertarian who's been a political nigger in this country since I was in college, it's kind of a refreshing change. I would get booed by entire classrooms for suggesting that maybe the phone company didn't need to be a publicly-controlled monopoly, and that competition would work better. "You think a dozen companies are each going to run lines to your house," the teacher said. I'd love to go back there and say "no, you sanctimonious ignoramus. They won't need wires. You know why they won't need wires? Because the people who provide almost everything we need in this country without the government deciding how to do it are better, smarter, and more creative than you are."

As someone who apparently has nothing on her belly in a location thickly overrun with fundamentalist Star-Bellied Sneetches, I would think you would understand.
