Current Events » in reply to MAJOR THANKS to all the firefighting/support personel in SoCal fires

The fires came close to my son's home in San Diego

I just got off the phone with him. At the closest point, the fires were less than 2 miles away. He could see the flames from his home. It appears the danger is not so great right now but he still has to watch out if the wind shifts. He says that even though it's noon, the sky is so dark with smoke and ash that it looks like it's 6 PM outside.

Last year, we had several major wildfires here in Colorado. We got to see firsthand the dedication and heroism of the firefighters. Their work is backbreaking and dangerous, their pay is low, but their courage knows no bounds. Bless them all.

The big news here was the Hayman fire that burned about 138,000 acres over a period of a few weeks. It was awful. These fires in California have burned about 3 times as much in just a few days. Unbelievable.
