One assumes that the root idea behind reforming campaign financing is to prevent large single sources of campaign money from corrupting the political process.
Of course, the real reason for passing the law was to try and cut off Republican funding sources, but we're talking theory here.
Millions of dollars pumped into a political campaign from one source that had an axe to grind was supposed to be a BAD thing. Liberals wailed about this endlessly, usually in connection with some corporation or PAC.
Now when somebody comes in complaining about how much Bush is like Hitler, but waves a big checkbook around, suddenly the corrupting influence of the Evil Rich is forgotten.
