I support incrementalism, but
Taking 50 years to get to Mars is way too slow, even for a snail. The Mars Direct plan could allow us to go to Mars within 10 years, and at a cost that would still allow Nasa to invest in, and build, deep space infrastructure.
Their slogan should be, "Mars in 10, anywhere else in 20."
