Ironically, if the U.S. hunts down and murders Saddam, the Shia will rise up and demand an Islamic republic - just what the White House seeks to avoid..
Read the same thing before. It's in the US' interest not to catch Saddam too soon.
But then, staying means humiliating Iraqis even more and leaving means losing face to the US as well as more chaos.
And democracy means a religious state just like Algeria in 1992.
A vicious cycle.
