Now, if the rest of the world would do the same...

You know, things like end their subsidizies for Airbus or the tariffs on American products. Nah, never happen. That's different, even if it's exactly the same.

In one of Tom Clancey's novels, President Jack Ryan got Congress to pass a simple trade law - the US will enact exactly the same restrictions on a country's products as it has on American products. The purpose was to point out the hypocracy of nations who complain about American tariffs and restrictions while implementing equally bad restrictions of their own. The goal was to work together to reduce restrictions on both sides. It's an interesting notion, but I doubt it would ever happen. For that matter, it might not be a very good idea, just interesting.

Meanwhile, we also need to phase out subsidizies for other things like agriculture and the mortgage industry (the deduction for mortgage interest is a de facto subsidizy).
