Yes, were are just speculating without the needed information required to come to a reasonable conclusions. Even then, this anomaly might never be fully explained.
Date and time of exposure?
RA and Dec?
Is north up on the photo?
What is the FOV?
What power was used?
Type of exposure (a focal,Prime,eye piece projection)?
What type of camera was used?
Even with all these questions answered I'm sure the originators of this photo are having trouble with a reasonable explanation.
