TOM: "Seriously, a sad reminder of one of the most depraved episodes of the Clinton administration, where there is a lot of competition for that title."
MY REPLY: How quickly one forgets. Tom, what you apparently forgot is that the American people overwhelmingly supported returning Elian back to his father. You also forget that the Republicans in Congress refused to pass special legislation to allow Elian to stay in the U.S. without his father. And, you failed to remember that the decision to return Elian back to the custody of his father was made by the courts.
Blaming Bill Clinton because U.S. law required returning Elian to the guardianship of his biological father is just plain ridiculous, but typical of the Clinton-haters who continue to blame everything they don't like about a less than perfect world on Bill and Hillary Clinton. Pathetic.
That being said, I hope you don't now twist my words to suggest that I am a Castro apologist. For the record, I have no love for Mr. Castro, or his socialist government. It would have been wonderful if Elian could have stayed in the U.S., but it is far more important that this young child grow up with the love and care of his father.
