Answer me one question:

If, prior to the Civil War, a black mother and child attained freedom in the North, and the mother died in the process, would you support returning the child to a plantation in the South just because that's where his father was?

After all, the Dred Scott decision was a ruling of the Supreme Court, right?

If I was the father of a child who had made it to freedom, I'd cut my own throat before dragging him back across the barbed wire just so I could be with him. I don't know what the true motivation of Elian's father was. I do know that he was rewarded with an "election" to the Cuban Parliament earlier this year. Like the other candidates, he ran unopposed.

You can sanitize it as much as you like, but we took a child and returned him to slavery, not for moral principles, but based on the left's hatred of the Cuban-American community, its constant avoidance of the truth about Castro, and political convenience. The willful blindness of the Left toward the Castro regime is infuriating. We went through this once with the library controversy.

Oh, by the way: Gore probably paid for this little episode in Florida with the presidency.

Elian and the polls.
