Yes, according to a coalition commander.
This fits in with some speculations I have had, the most recent in this post.
A bank robbery happened recently, and then there was the attack on our troops as they delivered cash to banks. At the time, I said the latter looked more like an attempted heist than an attack.
I think we just may have turned off the money faucet. Be interesting to see how many dedicated patriotic recruits they can come up with when they aren't paying $5,000 for a dead American.
I had thought that the enemy took huge quantities of money off into the bushes when they fled. Where did it go?
One possible answer: You are a Baathist thug, hiding in the deserts and villages. You can't show your face in most parts of Iraq without getting it shot off. If you are a Saddam toady, you used to live pretty good. Now here you are, eating canned beans, with the biggest army on Earth looking for your ass. Loyalty isn't paying the benefits it used to. Now, sitting there in front of you is the big box of cash you and your cronies "liberated" at the fall of Saddam. It seems to be speaking to you..."You know, the Syrian border is looking pretty damn good right now. Maybe you and me can go off and make some beautiful music together."
Multiply this by about a thousand Baathist thugs.
Baathists going broke?
