This may be a shock to you, but politicians are supposed to avoid even the appearence of wrongdoing. It doesn't matter is it is wrong or not, if it looks wrong it's supposed to change. Admittedly if Bush did that nearly all of his administration would have to resign though.

The problem here is that Cheney has investments in a trust that made money from fraud perpetrated by Frist, the majority leader's family. Now of course to be a Republican is not by definition to be a crook, despite the current administration.

In addition to this Frist helps pass laws which help his familly business, which is a conflict of interest. Some Democrats do that too, and they are wrong as well.

So to avoid the appearence of wrongdoing Cheny should have had someone put his money somewhere else away from fraudulent relations of the majority leader. That no one even bothered to ask this just shows what a complete joke business ethics is with Bush. I suppose if they went down that path they would have to see if Neil Bush was making money off his realtionship with W, and if his father was as well.

Then you would have to complain about Perle making deals that have a conflict of interest with his position.

The whole thing is a joke, just people using their public office for private gain. The point is no one really cares about corruption, or all these things would be swept away in both the left and right. The public would be better off for it.

As to Cheny possibly being indicted for bribing Niger this just shows you have no idea at all any more. People went to prison in the past for exactly this, when IIRC Boeing and others were doing it. It's not the idea of government to have leaders commiting global fraud as some kind of personal achievement to show on their CV.
