Digital photo question

Can anyone explain why my photos turn out like this one of the Sun with sunspot?

I took the photo with a Nikon 4300 and downloaded to my files and they look sharp, but when I transfer them to my geocities account so I can post on the web they're different.

The photos I take with film and perform the same process come out fine after I transfer them to geocities.
