And, I'd bet the next five years will have over a terrabyte on our home systems.
In fact, without straining to much you can do it right now. All you need is five of these and the right case.
With a 2.8+CPU and some fast RAM, no problem.
Without putting a real sharp pencil to it, I think you could build the thing for less than three grand.
