More fun with statistics:

This was mentioned in passing in a discussion of this survey on the Bush space proposal:

It made a difference who was said to be behind the plan. When half the poll sample was asked about a "Bush administration" plan to expand space exploration instead of the "United States" plan, opposition increased.

Just over half of Democrats' opposed the plan by "the United States." Once it was identified as a "Bush administration" plan, Democrats opposed it by a 2-to-1 margin.

In other words, for some Democrats, the only important fact is whether or not Bush proposed it. Even something they would otherwise support. So if you polled 90 Democrats, about 45 would support an anonymous space initiative, and 45 would oppose it. But if it was a Bush space initiative, 60 would oppose it and only 30 support it. This means 15 Democrats switched positions simply because they hate Bush. 1 in 6.

And that's a minimum, because it doesn't count any Bush haters who would not support a space initiative no matter who proposed it. Then there would also be any America-haters who opposed the plan on the original question simply because it was "American." One would really have to do this trick on a number of issues to get an accurate count.
