"Habitablezone"

How "habitable" is a place where facts are ignored and reason non-existent by and in the most active, loudest posters. Example -

Title of original post.

US Supreme Court upholds “Night and Fog”.

There was a mention that Hitler also had the power to hold people completely incommunicado.

Response from one "Tom Broz", a frequent poster on Habitablezone.

“And the right gets grief for pointing them out when they're seemingly falling on us like rain from the Left.
“BTW, it would be useful if you'd settle on a handle and stick with it. Paranoid or something?”

Now, the next post from “Mourner”.

Ah, my friend, you forget or neglect:Â
to see that Bush is only in the 3rd year of his regime. You would need to compare him to other dictators at that stage, when they were consolidating their power.
You're saying he's not like someone who was in the, say, 10th or 12th year.
What were those other guys like in the early years? Hadn't even started to invade other countries. Your guy is a bit ahead of the game, as they say.
And you don't even try to dispute the facts. If your guy doesn't like the comparisons, he shouldn't act like them other guys.
"If it waddles like a duck, quacks like a duck, etc., and so on."

And the follow-on from another frequent poster, “Larry C”
“And if you babble like an idiot, what does that make you?”
“Stupid is as stupid types”.

And those are just examples. It would have taken some thought to counter either position and these very, very active people didn't demonstrate a willingness or capacity for that. “Habitablezone” seems to be dominated by a lack of reasoning and “ad hominem” attacks by the more vocal members. How on God's earth anyone could hope to exchange ideas when the most prolific posters are operating on this level is beyond me.

Devoid of fact or reason, these comments and the people making them wouldn't last a minute in any high school debate class. And wouldn't be tolerated in any discourse with educated people. (Education is more than time in school, by the way. "They" will argue that.)
Thank God they find an outlet here.
