They do plan or did plan to do such things in ISS in '08 or there abouts...
As some have pointed out the rotate is very high making the whole thing hard to validate as a test. So part of the original plan is removed the mice are not giving birth in space. To bad! It would have been pretty cool. But this mission does all kinds of firsts. Not least is a ballistic return of a student spacecraft!
