Grownups who believe in sucking milk from their mom's teat are some very sick people.
We agree! Now that Republicans control the government, have they ended government subsidies for tobacco farmers? (The Reagan administration didn't try. Stockman discovered that if you can't end tobacco subsidies, nobody in Congress is gonna take WH budget-cutting plans seriously.)
Would you agree that grown-ups who believe in sucking the financial resources from future generations through borrow-and-spend government are very irresponsible people?
In 1968, after President Johnson gave his SoTU address, a Republican gave his party's rebuttal. He said, "The nation faces this year just as it did last a tremendous deficit in the federal budget, but in the president's message there was no sense of sacrifice on the part of the government, no assignment of priorities, no hint of a need to put first things first."
The Republican who gave the rebuttal was George HW Bush. The "tremendous deficit" he spoke of was $25 billion. Back then, "fiscal conservative" wasn't an oxymoron.
I'd like to know what Bush thought of his kid's SoTU speech.
