It was intended to be a bit humorous, but...

While Tolkein emphathetically denied that his story was an allegory for any existing political occurrences, like WWII, it is true that his conservative (in the British sense) British attitudes were scattered throughout the whole story, not all of which I agree with. He had a very negative attitude toward industrialization, a bit too much liking for the classes and heirarchies of the old times, and a romantic ideal of heroism that is almost Arthurian. The latter is the source of the approval of an armed warrior elite. Some of his archaic, almost poetic, dialogue of the high and the mighty, as written in the books, would have gotten the movie characters laughed off the screen.

The fact is our country kills more people by gun per capita than any other first world country.

Do you have a source for that? Please don't say Michael Moore. A real source.
