And the Democratic alternative? "massive tax increases and out-of-control spending?"
What is going to be interesting when the Democrats settle on a candidate, is that he is going to have to come up with a political stand other than "Bush sucks." In economics, once he gets past "kill and eat the rich,*" he'll have nothing. Where is he going to cut spending? Defense? Will he reign back entitlements, the real albatross around the economy's neck? How? Is there any domestic item that Bush has dumped money on where the Democratic candidate will cut back? Farm supports? Medicare? NEA? Anything?
Every Democrat has proposed larger government outlays than Bush has, which is saying a lot. Will that change?
What's their brilliant answer? Has any one of the economic blogs Greg has referred to graphed a Democratic future?
The hard truth is that we have a nation of 300 million people, and millions are pouring in every year from all over the world. The population of the entire European Union is about 385 million.
We cannot afford to weave an airtight, comfortable social hammock under a population this size, especially with low-income people pouring in. Nobody can. When do we say, "enough" to the socialists? Bush isn't doing it, although he should be, and you can bet your ass no Democrat ever will.

*Defined by Democrats as "anyone who has more money than you do."
