Lunar space elevators

A critical point I missed on the design of a lunar "space elevator" is that a lunar orbit synchronous with the Moon's one-month rotational period is a BIG orbit. The elevator would probably be much longer than an Earth-orbiting space elevator system. I don't know if this overrides the material advantage of the Moon's lesser gravity or not. Anybody have any references?
