re: Civilians

I'd like to see their criteria for counting civilian deaths. Technically, a civilian is someone who isn't in the military. Since Saddam's military collapsed, there has still been a lot of organized resistance by Iraqis loyal to Saddam and by outsiders. Since the old Iraqi military no longer exists, those people might be considered as civilians. Are they being counted as civilians when they're killed? Once they pick up a weapon and engage coalition forces, they become combatants even if they're technically still civilians. They lose the protections that true noncombatant civilians are supposed to be afforded under international law.
