What fascinates me about exploration is that children are placed at the same level as the best scientists: we get the same image at the same time. That's especially true with exploring space.
To explore is to be innocent, to be a child in front of the mysteries out there. We start from the beginning and should be allowed mistakes (some of the things we learn have no real purpose, today, than to expand or knowledge).
But going there (to Mars) and staying on the planet, getting to use it for our benefit, mean we become responsible. Not only responsible of the new environment but also of our children who have to cope with a planet that wasn't originally their parent's. And with responsibility , all the other aspects of human interactions are raised, like what happens if....Law gets involved, rules, safety, etc...
But when we explore, we at least have the excuse of not knowing...but we lalso learn.
