If all these service industry jobs are so great, why do we have as many uninsured workers as we do?
Beats me. Most of those who wail about the number of people without health insurance never actually ask the question "why?" You see, they don't really want an answer, they want a political weapon.
You are assuming in your question that working in service jobs has something to do with people going without insurance. Nothing at all supports that statement. A lot of types of jobs may involve difficulties in getting insurance, even manufacturing ones. Granting the apparently immovable premise here that all non-manufacturing jobs involve menial burger-flipping, even McDonalds offers a health plan.
And although it makes good copy, damn few people are supporting families by flipping burgers.
