re: Some thoughts

We have to be careful how we approach these scenarios. Personally I would like to continue with OBPR research before abandoning ISS to better humans for space travel.

And what happens if Bush is not reelected the Shuttle is scraped, Russian's, ESA, Japan and China decided they wanted ISS, turned it into a tourist haven, completed the microgravity and biomedical science modules and started profiting from 0g medical research like sending low cost prescription drugs down from ISS.

Just because the money from scraping the Shuttle and ISS would be free it doesn't mean some new president will fund other projects. Some think the available money should be returned to the general fund. Remember how stagnate NASA's budget was during the Clinton years, it would probably been a lot less if funding for ISS and the Shuttles were not needed all of a sudden.
