sediment hosted ore deposits

Yikes....completely forgot about sediment hosted ore deposits. These things are huge and regionally extensive! Oh, crap, now I gotta read 'bout these deposits. I'll post refs if I can.

Oh, and the Iberian pyrite belt in Spain is pretty stinking big too, and it's hydrothermal.

One thing that could enter into the "interesting" data problem: metals. If we are talking a hydrothermal or groundwater brine (which is how sediment hosted ore is transported and deposited) then there are going to be all kinds of metals here: mercury, iron, antimony, just to mention a few. Not to mention a whole host of exotic minerals with strange sounding names and even stranger chemisrty! Anything that was in the altered rock goes somewhere. So that is also barium, antimony, gawd, you name it. What kind of spectra would these create?

Oh, if we are talking metals, we are talking Economic Geology. That'd bring humans to Mars faster than life would.

So cool. And all from one stupid outcrop.

I'm glad that the group here is getting an understanding of the logic of geology, it's always puzzle, and this outcrop is going to be discussed for a very long time.
