He won't have to wait that long

I hope to introduce him to flying by the time he's 5 or so. Small planes are loud and can be scary, but I saw a great way to introduce young kids to them. I was out at my local airport and saw a young man taxiing around with 3 little kids. He didn't take off, he just taxied around a bit. He told me that the next step would be to do an engine run-up (magneto check), all the while talking to the kids through the intercom so they'd know what was going on. He only planned on taking off with them once they showed they weren't afraid.

As soon as my son and daughter-in-law told me they were expecting, I told them on my intention to make a pilot out of the kid. Boy or girl, it didn't matter. Anyone who has ever seen Patty Wagstaff fly knows good and well that women can make excellent pilots.

BTW: My grandson will be named Jason Warren. Jason is my son's middle name (had it been a girl, they were going to name her Sarah, after my daughter-in-law's middle name). My son is a big football fan, so Warren isn't hard to understand. I had suggested "Walter", after one of the all time greats, Walter Peyton, but Jim likes Warren better.
