Election in California

Not just a big deal for the Democratic primary.

Some propositions online, as usual.

Prop 55: Yet another state bond for education. Hard to believe we passed a huge one just a couple of years ago. Not this time.

Prop 56: The almost annual attempt by the Democrats to punch a hole in Prop 13. This time, it's a bill supposedly to hold the legislature's feet to the fire to pass budgets on time. But stuck deep inside, like a grenade in a birthday cake, is an amendment to change the percentage of votes required to increase taxes from the current two-thirds, down to 55 percent. Bonus points for correctly guessing what percent of the California assembly is Democratic. No way in hell do I vote for this one. Better luck next time, boys.

Prop 57 and 58: "Arnold's propositions," a finger stuck in the financial dike to supposedly give him a chance to fix the budget. Another damn bond. I want to give Arnold a shot, but geez, another damn bond. Still thinking about this one.

Measure 2: Yet another massive mass transit boondoggle. Yeah, right. Bring it back with just the highway fixes, and I'll think about it.

A measure for a property tax increase for our local schools. This will fund teachers, music and art, libraries, and extra education programs. Yes on this one. What're you looking at? This is where our property tax money is supposed to go, and support for schools should come from their local communites.

I've got to pick a Republican to run against Boxer, which is like trying to pick which Girl Scout I'm going to send against Godzilla, but it's got to be done, I suppose.
