Re: vandals:
Political vandals tend to hold opinions similar to those of the majority in the area. They become inflamed at the display of opinions that differ from the obviously "correct" majority opinion. They can count on a certain amount of anonymity, because there are so many people out there with possible motive and definite opportunity.
Vandals from the minority end are captured more quickly, because the minority groups tend to stand out more. They are a subset of a smaller group to begin with, so there are fewer of them.
The main way that vandals differ from their non-vandal neighbors is that, happily, more of us tend to respect our neighbors and obey most of the laws.
This is, of course, only my opinion, based on the experiences of political vandalism we have around here, which tend to favor conservative causes. After an incident of vandalism, it takes a little discipline for me to remember that people who disagree with me are not uniformly likely to bust out my car windows. (This hasn't happened to me, but to a friend who had the bad judgment to post a standard campaign sign on his lawn of the "Vote for My Candidate" variety.)
You really think that liberals in your area favor vandalism? Tell me, do you still have a house?
