One wonders how he would have done in the age of television. Nixon would know.
re: vandalism, and a withdrawal of my snide comment:
I must admit that most of my experience with this sort of thing came from working on a university campus, which has a concentration of leftist psycho hose beasts. A car with the "wrong" bumper stickers would find itself "keyed." This never actually happened to me--possibly because my car is a heap to begin with, although it happened to people I knew. Campus newspapers with the "wrong" opinions would find their papers stolen, or the dispensing boxes wrecked. Signs or postings with the "wrong" opinions would be defaced. This was all largely directed at conservative opinions, but as I said, this was on a campus.
And to be sure, I have as yet had none of these problems in my own neighborhood, despite most of my neighbors being liberal and my brazen display in 2000 of a "Bush-Cheney" yard sign.
So I guess I was guilty of hyperbole, and painted my neighborhood unfairly. Since I no longer work at the university, I expect both my car and signs will be just fine.

Hey, Lincoln wasn't exactly easy on the eyes either.
