Trickle Down Barely A Few Drops

Payrolls disappointing again

"Payrolls outside the farm sector grew by just 21,000 jobs, the Labor Department said, compared with a downwardly revised gain of 97,000 in January. The unemployment rate held steady at 5.6 percent, matching January's number."

"Economists, on average, had expected 125,000 new jobs and unemployment at 5.6 percent, according to Briefing.com."

"The nation has lost about 2.35 jobs million since March 2001, the month the last recession began, in the longest stretch of labor market weakness since the Labor Department started keeping track in 1939. More than 700,000 of those jobs have disappeared since the recession ended in November 2001."

Check out that last line. The extra cash from tax cuts is going into automated equipment to improve productivity not equipment requiring operators. Productivity growth is just about meeting demand currently so little hiring is going on. Since the official end of recession productivity has exceeded job growth. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because higher productivity means a higher standard of living for those working, but it does show cutting taxes for the wealthy does not necessarily result in more jobs as Bush claimed it would. If he wanted to help average Americans and the unemployed he should have focused on them not those in fine shape already to weather a recession.

Anybody else remember when the economy used to create 200,000 jobs per month with higher tax rates. Those Bush tax cuts sure did a fine job didn't they?

Wake up Democrats. Cut out the bullshit and focus on real issues. Fire the numnut in charge of your party.

Mark
