At one time, those were great. Batteries and bulbs were so inefficient, the only way to have a reliable light was with the generator. They're still selling them, by the way.
LEDs make that a bit of a problem anymore. Actually, a generator feeding into a rechargeable battery which powers an LED is one hell of an idea. Might fool around with that. They tear up the tires these days, tires are smaller, thinner, stronger in ways but weaker in others. If it could be mounted to engage the tread instead of the sidewall it might help.
By the way, my favorite Christmas gifts this year, the stuff which went over the biggest, besides the Bumble Bee nests, was a $25 LED headlamp from Cabela, called "Mountain Green". It has two settings, one with a 4 LED light, and one with an 8. It's the first headlamp I've found which puts out enough light to walk with.
HOWEVER, it's absolutely super for working on the box of the computer, painting, looking for things on the floor, reading at night, all that sort of stuff.
I gave away 10 of them, actually bought 8 to give away, but some wives were jealous, and I gave away the other two also.
When I'm out at the farm I use it at night instead of running the 7KW generator. (Haven't installed batteries out there yet.) I've found that you get used to it almost immediately, that having light "right where you live" is important, much of the rest of it isn't. Can play cribbage for hours without strain.
Anyway, it's handier than the dickens. And lasts seemingly forever on 4 AA batteries.
More'n you ever wanted to know. And about as much as I enjoyed writing.

Re lights in general. And generators.
